WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION
ATTITUDE OF AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, August 1!). Consideration was given by the Executive Committee of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Asso- ( oiation to the report of a sub-committee appointed to consider an outlined scheme for . the administration of war relief funds by the proposed Dominion Association. 'Plie committee's report, wliich was adopted, was' as follows: — " i "Your suo-committco is in entiro sympathy with tie fundamental principles imderlying the sclieme whereby it is laid down that no New Zealand soldier or sailor or his dependents shall be without relief.' Yonr sub-committee is of opinion that this essential is in a great part met by the Consolidated Fluid through the machinery of the Pensions Actj which properly provides the desired uniform national plan of relief. In order,_ however, to supplement the allowances in cases in which, owing to their special character do not appear to have been sufficiently provided for under the Pensions Act, and to relieve such cases as are not provided for by it, your sub-committee recommends the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Eelief Association to undertake the duty of organising and raising funds within the Auckland military district or other area that mny. be allotted to it, and relieving .of. all cases which may arise within 'such district. It is of opinion that tihe funds so raised can bo administered more ; effectively by cach Belief Association possessing complete autonomy uncontrolled by a central or national organisation. Your subcommittee is, however, favourable to the establishment of a National Federation of similar associations • to our own within the Dominion of New Zealand, whose governing body shall define the area of "the districts in which the several relief associations shall raise and expend funds, set up a standard scale of relief, for their guidance, and adjudicate upon all cases of difference which may from time to time arise between them. Your sub-ccinmittee is not prepared to support the formation of 'The Dominion of New Zealand Relief Association' upon the lines submitted, and recommends that the promoters of tho Bchemo be informed of tho decision-in terms of tho above."
