——» "THE PRICE OF BUTTER.
Sir,—Replying to your correspondent of August 17, "Butter and Bread for All," I must agree with most ha says that the price of butter is far too high. The dairy-farmers generally are not in sympathy with these high prices, but the public in most cases consider the farmers are responsible for these high prices, as I have already had it remarked to myself that the farmers are the only people who are getting rich out of the war, and in return giving the least assistance. This is not correct, as the approaching season will find us a shortage of labour. I might mention that our local co-operative dairy company sold almost its entire winter output of butter to local and other storekeepers at one shilling per lb., and to-day butter is being retailed here to the public at one shilling and sixpence per lb.—l am, , DAIRY-FARMER.
