AUSTRIAN NAVAL ATTACK.
ON AN ITALIAN ISLAND REPULSED BY BRAVE DEFENDERS Br Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Rome, August 18. An Italian.naval communique states: "Yesterday morning 'twenty Austrian naval units and aeroplanes attacked the island of Pelagos, in the Adriatic. The attack was met with great bravery and the enemy retired without attempting to land. We had four men killed ana three wounded. The enemy's loss is not known. [Pelagosa is a desert island in the Adriatic Sea, midway- between the Promontory of Gargano, Southern Italy and Dalmatia.] THE LAND CAMPAIGN ITALIAN COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. August 19, 10.45 p.m.) Rome, August 19. Official.—"Wo captured a second line of trenches in the Bacher Valley, in the Sexten region. "Our troops in tho Monte Nero sector are advancing along the Varsix crest towards Javosiek, and have expelled the enemy from his trenches. "We occupied several trenches on tho Santa Lucia height, taking prisoners two hundred. "Our attack on tho Carso heights was a brilliant succcss. The enemy's violent attack on tho centre 'was checked, and he won some ground, enabling us to occupy an important position westward of Marcottini." 1 AUSTRIAN COMMUNIQUE. (lice.
