ST. JAMES'S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING. ' The annual meeting of St. James's Presbyterian Church was lield on Wednesday evening, the Rev. W'm. Shircr presiding. The annual report was adopted on the motion of Mr. Davidson, sessions Clerk. The following facts were stated in the report, printed, and circulated;— Communicant members,' 391; number added, 79; of these 25 weire by examination, the greater part from .Sunday school and Bible classes. Tho' Sacrament of Baptism, was administered to 81 children and 3 adults. Burials conducted. 29.:' Attention was called to visitation, also to the work of military chaplain done by the minister. 'The Visiting Committee, it was stated, had done very satisfactory work, the number of visits paid being 530. The Sun- 1 day School had 341 scholars on the roll; teachers 28. The superintendent (Captain J. M. Johnston) had joined the Liverpool Regiment, and Mr. R. Richmond had succeeded him as superintendent. The membership had been affected by removals and by several joining tho Expeditionary Force, but still held a leading position. Thirtyfive young men had responded to the nation's call; others had since done so. In. the Young Women's Bible Class, under tho leadership of Miss Feist, greater interest had been shown; roll of members, 26; four had joined the teaching staff of the Sabbath School. The statement of the honorary, treasurer (Mr. M'Lay) showed that receipts from collections had increased by £15 13s. lid., and seat, rents £11 10s. 6d. Contributions for special objects also showed a very considerable increase. The gross revenuo was £774. Also, from funds in'hand, £146 was expended, on work done to the manse; £20 was transferred to- the renovation fund. A voto of thanks was conveyed to Mr. M'Lay for tho help given by him in connection with the finances of the. congregation. Mr. S. Ramsbotham was re-elected an elder. Appreciation was expressed in the report and by the meeting of the work done by. the Rev. Mr. Shirer and Mrs. Shirer. . '
