BOY SCOUTS
St. Paul's Churcliroom, Tinakori Koacl, was crowded on Tuesday evening for an entertainment given by the St. Paul's Trootf of Boy Scouts. The Rev. A. JI. Johnson, who presided, said that, at the commencement of the war, the Boy Scouts saved the situation in the. old country. It was essential that all the Territorials should be mobilised at once. Who could guard the bridges, tunnels, etc., on tha railway lines? The whole country was swarming with German 6pics and the destruction of a tunnel on a main route would hinder the mobilisation considerably. Tho Boy .Scouts came to tho rescue and guarded tho bridges and tunnels night and day. It was matter of common knowledge at home that ono patrol in tho north gave their li'ves for King and country, being blown up with tho bridge that they were guarding. Scoutmaster Godfrey, in presenting the report and balance-sheet, stated that the troop contained two King's Scouts and had entered a team for the ambulance competition. The troop had been on ditty at the wharf when the reinforcements had sailetl, and was''now providing lads on duty at tho Sydney Street Soldiers' Club. The lads had made 16 dozen bandages for the Hospital Shin, and had eiven a sum of >E2 ss. Bd.to the Belgian Fund. The entertainment comprised piano solos, 6ongs and recitations by the lads, ami a camp scene, in which the lads wero found asleep in their tents. At the sound of the bugle, they mustered on parade, breakfast was served out and inspection followed. Displays of ambulance work wero found extremely interesting by the audience, as also the bout of blindfold boxing. .During the singing of "Mr. Conductor Man" by Scout I.eslie Johnson, a rain of coins fell on the stage much to the surprise of the lad. An extra verse to the National Anthem was furnished by u team of lads, the verse commencing "God save our gallant men.; bring tlieni safe home again." The proceedings closed with the buglers playing "Lights Out."
