The Union Company's Manuka arrived at Wellington from Sydney direot at 4.40 p.m. yostorday, and subsequently berthed at the Queen's Wharf, Ko. 1 south, where pratique was .granted. She left Sydney at 2.37 p.m. on Thursday last, and experienced moderate to strong southerly winds, with heavy seas, till Cook Strait was readied ,thence soutli-ea-st winds-and heavyseao till arrival. * . UNION COMPANY'S LATEST, GHAETEB. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Duneciin,. August 16. The Union Steam Ship Company lias chartered the cargo steamer Maritime, a vessel of about 9300 tons dead weight. She is to load oareo from Vancouver to Australia, and will sail from tho former port about the end of next month.
About 1500 boxes of flah were 'brought to Wellington from tho Chatham Islands, by tho Himitangi early yesterday morning. Departure was taken from Owenga.at noon on Friday, and boisterous weather was experienced all the way acrofs. Messrs. Banna,tyne and Co. adviso that the- Defender will take in -Hokitika, cargo at Wellington on Saturday next. _ .
