Major 'Albert Moeller Samuel, officer in charge of the Sixth Reinforcements is one of the best-known men iu the Wellington district, not perhaps in a military sense; bat as a business man and sportsman. From his earliest years -lie was always fond of sport, was a good amateur boxer and a capital swimmer, during tho time he attended Wellington College and afterwards. For many years he was a member of the Heretaunga Mounted Rifles, of which squadron he became ultimately captain. He was a member of the Wellington Hunt Club, and was himself a daring cross-country rider. He was also prominently associated with tho Petone Trotting Club, and as member of the Wellington Commercial Travellers' Club lie played an active part in the big Carnival campaign of two months ago. Mr. Samuel contested the Hnt-t seat against Mr. T. M. Wilford at last year's election, and made a splendid showing at tiio poii.
