; —H '& meeting of the "Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday'afternoon. There were present: Messrs. C. <M. Luke (chairman), A. ' Leigh Hunt,. J. Eeid, H. A. Fox, H. G. Hill, L.. Ashcroft Edwards, W. Smith, and J. P.. Atkins. ■■ . • A reply to a request by the Chamber for week-end concession tickets issuable to the suburban districts of Wellington was received from the General Manager of Railways. Mr. Hiley stated that he could not depart from the decision already conveyed to the Chamber that 1 he could not comply with the request to. extend tickets from Fridays to Mondays. ' Gratification was expressed by mem-' bers that Mr. Robert Hall had sufficiently recovered to bo removed to his own home. , - - ■ ,■ *. Some brief discussion took place con- , 1 cerning the danger of Chinese hoarding Bold and exporting it. The authorities, it was said, were aware of the fact that the Chinese were hoarding : gold,~ but were taking care to prevent export. It was resolved to suggest to the Minister of Customs that exceedingly stringent, measures ishould be, taken, to'make it impossible for Chinese to get gold out of the country- on *bne pretext or another. .. ■ The necessity for further activity regarding the Rhmltaka deviation was pressed: by Mr. Hill, and the commit-, tee dealing with, the matter was instructed to endeavour to have effect given to the resolution of the Conference of Local Bodies, that a Royal , Commission to investigate the question be set up. ■ -
