ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

FATAL MOTOR-CYCLE 'ACCIDENT. ■ An inquest was held at Wellington Hospital yesterday afternoon by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., into the can so of death of Maitland M'Anerin, who was fatally injured as the result of a niotorbioycle accident on Friday last. Senior Sergeant' Mullany appeared ' for the police. "■■■.■ ' Dr. Marshall, house surgeon at Wellington Hospital, gave evidence that deceased was admitted at about 2.30 p.m. to the institution in an. unconscious condition. Deceased never recovered consciousness, and died at about 4.45 p.m. from shock, and as the result of a fractured skull. j' Chas. Henry M'Millan, who witnessed I the accident/ said he was ill Tinakori \ Road when lie saw deceased coming round the corner near, the Botanical Gardens gates on a motor-cycle. The machine was travelling at' a : high rate of speed, and being unable to negotiate the corner, struck-tho kerbing and skidded on to a; telegraph pole. M'An<vriii struck the kerbiug with his head. The road at tho corner deceased had failed to negotiate was narrow and under repair. Michael Kearney, taxi-driver, who witnessed the accident, also. gave evidence. Witness knew deceased, and considered him a competent and good motorist. A collision occurred between a motoroar and a motor-cyclist on the Gladstone Road on Saturday night, 'resulting in the cyclist (a man named Pearson) sustaining a fracture of the right leg above the Knee.
