(By Telecraph.—'-*•• Dunedin, August 15. Tho criminal quarterly sittings of tho Supremo' Court were continued on Saturday before. His Honour Mr. Justico Sim. John 801 l M'Clvmont was acquitted on tho charge of stealing £3 lis. Gd., purchase money for a sword presented,by him to George Mun.ro Catto, His Honour pointing out that while tho prosecution had contended: that tho presentation was a private ono, tho Governmbnt auditor had passed it as a regimental account. In the remaining, one of throe charges formulated against M'Clymont—that of stealing ,£2l 75., tho amount of,a cheque paid to liini as his -sh-aro of tho canteen profits of the 14th South Otam Kegiment, tlio jury, aftor a four TTonrs' retirement, failed to aeree, and a new trial was -ordered, to take place 011 Monday. James Kirkman, alias Turner, who had been found guilty of threatening to set fire to the Viotoria Bridge Hotel, was sentenced to the full term of two vfars' imprisonment, His Honour regarding it as dangerous for nrisoner to bo at largo.
