UPPER HUTT COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., occupied the bench at the monthly sitting of tlie Upper Hutt Magistrate's Court, held yesterday. Two ra«i—-Arthur Madden and Martin Cairns —wore charged with convoying, liquor into the Trentham Military Camp. Both men admitted the offence, though they stated to the Court that they had no intention of selling' the liquor. Cairns also pleaded ignorance of the regulations. The magistrate imposed fines of 20s. in each case, witli 7s. costs. For allowing stock to wander, Edward Cottle was lined 205., witli 7s. costs, and A, Howell 55., witli, 7s. costs. CIVIL ACTIONS. ■ In a civil case, J. A. Hazelwood v. A. A. Olsen, a claim for £2(3 2s. 6d., judgment was given for plaintiff by default, with £2 18s. costs. James Judge was ordered to pay George Samuel Phillips the sum of £7 17s. lOd. on or- before August 25, in default Beven days' imprisonment. D. Morrison was ordered to pay Ernest Gooday £9 Is. 6d.; D. Morrison to pay John Goldstone £7 lis. 6d.; William Reynolds, to pay J. H. Geddes £9 10s. Bd.; and George Pyne, to pay John Goldstono £2 95... All the payments are to be made on or before August 25. Lionel W. Hobbs, poultry farm manager, represented by Mr. 11.- H. Webb, proceeded against J. M. Ferguson, poultry farmer, for whom Mr. 0. W. iVAlson appoared, to recover .CIS 10s., the bulk of wliioh was alleged to be due for wages and wrongful dismissal. Defendant counter-claimed the sum of £20 14s. 2d. After being ' partially heard, the ease was adjournod for a month.
