HUTT COUNTY AFFAIRS
Tho monthly meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday, Councillors J. W. Howell presiding. It was decided, in referenco to a contribution to the Upper Hutt Technical School, that- the School Board bo asked to furnish a balance-sheet together witli a return showing the average atteHdanoo of pupils for tlio past year. Tlio chairman reported , that Messrs. M'Ewan and Baldwin had been appointed to appear before tho committee of the Heuse of Representatives and endeavour to arrange for better conditions in regard to the management and upkeep of the Hutt Road. It was decided to ask Mr. Morton to report upon the water supply and drainage scheme for Day's Bay. With regard to a request by Mr. 0. S. Watkins that river protective works be erected at Silvorstream, ■ it was'decided to leave the matter in the hands of Councillor Welsh and' the liisspector of Works, with power to act. Mr. A. Seed attended, asking the council to erect a-bridge at Collins Ford. The council resolved to'make an inspection.
Plans submitted •by Messrs'. Seaton Sladden and Pavitt for. the proposed road at Treiitham were referred to the inspector of works. It was decidcd to levy rates for 1916 on the Epuni" Horokiwi' and Mangaroa ridings of Id. in tho pound, and on the Wainui-o-matar and Wharcroa ridings lid., together with a special rate on the Wainui-o-mata riding of l-14d. on the concrete bridge lately orectcd. The roport of tho inspector of works njado reference to extensive damage inflicted by tho recent floods, and it was decided that the work of repairing bo gone on with.
