AUSTRALIAN FLYING CORPS
NEW ZEALAND OFFICER MISSING
A young New Zealand aviator, Lieutenant W. W. A. Burn, attached to the Anglo-India Foreo campaigning in Mesopotamia, is posted as missing. Tho news was conveyed in a cablegram from tlio Viceroy of India to His Excellency tho Governor. ' Lieutenant Burn was the only Now Zealand officer sent to England before tho war to undergo a course of instruction in the Royal Flying Corps. He was educated at tho Oliristcliurch Boys' High School, and joined the New Zealand Staff Corps on leaving sohool four years ago. After serving for a year he was sent to England and underwent a training course of two years, chiefly in aviation. On the completion of his course he spent somo months in this country, acting as adjutant of tho Third (Auckland) Regiment. At the beginning of April lie went to India and was posted with the rank of Flight-Lieutenant to tho 1) (Flying) Section of the Indian Expeditionary Force. He has sinco been ongaged in tho Mesopotamia campaign ami his last letters to his relatives in this country were dated from tho Tigris River. Lieutenant Bum is 24 years of age. Though born > and educated in Christchurch he is well known in Wellington. The cablegram from the Viceroy of India, states that- he has been missing since August 3.
