Ilardy suddenly advanced coolly towards .the enemy trenches oblivious of tlie shells falling when shrapnel blew off half a hand. He still pushed forward, throwing bombs with the other hand. 'An officer called him; lie camo back and replied:. "My place is at the front; nothing makes any difference to me." He went on bomb-throwing and then a bullet killed him. [Captain 11. S. Smart, of tho Indian , 'Army, was removed from the service recently bccause lie failed to rejoin his / regiment on the expiration of his leave in December, and subsequently enlisted as a private, under tho name of Hardy, in tho West Surreys'. Ho was killed at Festubert in May, where lie displayed such-gallantry that ho would have been granted the Distinguished Service Modal had ho survived. The King approved the cancellation, of the removal order.]
