A NEW CAMP AT TAUHEEENIKAU
JOINT-CAMP ARRANGEMENT. Having obtained expert advice upon matters medical, goologieal, and sanitary, the Defence authorities have decided to establish another permanent camp, after the manner of, and to be run in conjunction witli, the Trentham Camp. <Tho now camp will be situated at Tauhennikau, and will accommodate, it is understood, about 4000 men. The Reinforcements upon being called up will proceed to tho Trentham Camp, there receive. abbut two 'months' olementary training aiid musketry, and then transfer to the Tauherinikau site, where an advanced course will be gone through. Returning to Trentham again, the draft will receive the finishing touches to their training and outfitting, ■ and proceed to tho field of battle. Very little time and expense, it 'is hoped, will be necessary for the .transferring, of troops botween the two camps, and it is believed that under tho circumstances a joint-camp arrangement will facilitate, and tend to the efiiciency, of training. . The now camp site at Tauherinikau, which has been purchased by the Government, will comprise closo upon 100 acres, which, geologically, is said to be well adapted for camp requirements. Thoroughly good artesian water is available. The questions of hutments and other arrangements are at present under consideration. The Trentham and Tauhorinikau camps will be for tho exclusive uso of tho Reinforcements; other accommodation will thus have to be found for extra units, which will probably, bo called up ill October.
