A BAY OF PRAYER

The anniversary of Britain's declaration of war will also bo observed as a day of prayer in the Anglican churches of tho Diocese of Wellington _ and in some churches of other denominations. This arrangement was made before tho Prime Minister suggested that the churches should set apart Sunday next (August 8) for .this purpose. Most of tho churches have fallen in with Mr. Massey's suggestion, and the Anglican Church will now observe botia days. Thero will bo a day of continuous prayer at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, Mulgravo Street, to-day. At intervals during the day service swill be held as set forth in tho advertisement in another, column; but parishioners have made; arrangements tnat at no time during tho day shall'tho church be left without worshippers in silent prayer. In the evening a memorial service to those wlio have fallen. will be held. The psalms and -hymns' and anthems will be those used in St'. "'Paul's Cathedral, London, at the memorial service for men of Australia and. New. Zealand, on Juno 15. The roll of honour will bo laid on,tho altar..-.-The roil at St._Paul!s. has now about 150 names upon it. A small golden star is affixed to tho name of tno men who gave their lives for the Empire. Happily thero are but., three stars, though over 30 of the names have appeared iii the lists of wounded and missing. _ AT OTHER. CHURCHES.

\'A' service of intercession will be held tiiis afternoon at St. John's Church, Willis Street, starting at five' minutes past five/' ' r :' Special .■ united " intercessory prayermeetings, mil be held both afternoon nnd evening by the three Wellington Congregational Churches,, as advertised elsewhere in this issue. •
