WAR DECLARATION DAY
BRITAIN'S SOLEMN ANNIVERSARY
OBSERVANCES IN THE CITY
The anniversary of tbo British declaration. of war on Germany will bo observed throughout the Empire to-day by meetings of citizens, convened for i the purpose of placing on record the following resolution "That on this Anniversary of the ■ Declaration of a Righteous "War, this meeting of the'citizens of Wellington records its inflexible determination to continue to'a victorious end the Struggle in maintenance of those .ideals of liberty and justice which are tho common and sacred cause of tho Allies." Throughout New Zealand meetings of the various,.municipal bodies will bo held this evening. In Wellington, in addition to the meetings of tho suburban borougli councils, a great meeting will be held at the Town Hall, when tho resolution above referred to will bo made by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), seconded by the Primo Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey), and supported by the Leader of the Opposition (Sir Joseph Ward), Sir John i'indlay, Archbishop Redwood, Bishop Sprott, Rev. Dr. Gibb, Messrs. T. W. Hislop,. A. R. Atkinson, and A. de B. Brandon. Mr. Bernard Page will give several patriotic selection .on the grand organ. The meeting at the Town Hall will be attended by. the members of the National Reserve in full force, who will parade from convenient points through the city to the Town Hall, headed by the bands of the Reserve. ~ Similar meetings havo been convened by the Mayors of Miramar, . Karon, Onslow, and the Lower. Hutt, at.each of which.the resolution will bo adopted.
