THE NATIONAL CABINET
FINALITY PROBABLE TO-DAY,
To-day there should be definite n6ws ; about the conclusion of t3ie long negotiations concerning tho formation of a National Cabinet m Now Zealand. A statement was made in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon by. the Prime Minister to the effect that lie hoped to bo in a position to maka an announcement to the House to-day, and the Leader of the Opposition made a similar statement. Mr. Massey mado tho further statement that tho Government did not intend to ask the Housa to deal with anv important business until the National Government question had been disposed of finally. All this should indicate that finality will be» reached very shortly. : Both parties arc to meet in caucus iwain. The Opposition had ar-i ranged to meet yesterday, buti tholiotice was short, and owing to thei absence of eight members the meeting was postponed. It is tho expectationof members .that at this attempt tha union of parties will be agreed upon, but no authoritativo confirmation .08 this can bo obtained. If the National Cabinet is formed, an adjournment of tha Houso -will probably be necessary.
