APPRECIATION OF THE . DOMINIONS
I think the English people are beginning to lmve a real lova for us, of a warm, spontaneous sort, which never oxisted before '(states a London correspondent). "The Times" (which paper, as well as being a national organ, is one of the best friends Australia, possesses here) speaks of tho debt owing to tho Dominion, "how deep and how far beyond repayment we havo realised long ago." The article continues: "Now that their sons have been in battle thero is much more than this in our thoughts of them. AVe hold them in cspecial pride lor the proof they have given that the spirit of Greater Britain is undiminished, nay rather that it has attained to a lustre hardly worn before-" And tho article conclude:.: "For us there is not the thrill of such accomplishment, such endurance, such rivalry in generosity. Our service is to stand and wait. But we may dignify that waiting by celebrating as wo did. last night (at tho great memorial service) tho memory of our heroes dead."
Since its establishment the Labour Department has given practical assistance to 109,524 workers. The number assisted last year showed an increase of 1970 over 1913-14.
