N.Z. LAND VALUES LEAGUE
DOMINION CONFERENCE.
The New Zealand Land Values League Dominion Conference was commenced in Wellington yesterday. Tho following resolutions were passed: "That this National Conference of the Land Values Leagues of New Zealand expresses its horror at tho devastating war now in progress in Europe. It recognises that the issue at stake is democracy versus military autocracy, and expresses the hope that the forces of freedom will gain a speedy victory. Tlie .French Yellow Book clearly shows that tlie war has been forced on by tlio Prussian Junkers or landed nobility in order to avoid the imposition of succession duties and to check tlie growth of social democracy ip Germany." '"rhat_ this conference expresses its satisfaction with the growth of the movement for tho Tating of unimproved Values, the latest figures she-wing that the eystem has now been adopted by 135 local authorities, and further declares that the time Ims now arrived when the system should he made general throughout New Zealand."
_ "That this conference notes witli satisfaction the growth of opinion among tho farming community as evidenced by various resolutions passed by the farmers' unions, in favour of our proposals for direct taxation as against further import, and export taxes. -This indicates a gratifying tendency to fall into line with the progressive attitude adopted by the farmers of Western Canada."
