GOOD GAME ON THE BASIN. ' Saturday afternoon saw the Wellington Football Association's matches advanced another stage. The games were fast and willing, and several of the teams appeared to have struck form at last. The meeting of Swifts and Diamonds resulted in one of the best games seen this 6eason, . SWIFTS-DIAMONDS. After a fast and exciting game, Diamonds defeated Swifts by four goals .to three on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Youll was responsible for scoringj Swifts' first goal, and after a spell of give-and-take play Fitzgerald scored the _ Red's second goal. Later Fitzgerald, being in a handy position, scored Svifts' third goal. On the call of half-time, DumbleEon scored for Diamonds. In the second half, Diamonds mado the pace merry, and Liversage and Lynneberg made the scores equal. Diamonds ultimately won the match, by Lynneberg scoring from a difficult angle. CORINTHIANS—Y.M.C.A'. Although defeated by Corinthians on Anderson Park on Saturday afternoon, Y.M.C.A. A wero by 110 means disgraced. The score—four goals to nil—does not indicate fairly tho oharacter of tho game. Towards the end of tho first spell Bollard, on the left-wing, scored. Corinthians' sccond goal camo from a melee in front of the Y.M.C.A. goal. Corinthians nianaged to score two more goals—Jardine headod through ou one occasion and Foote repeated the performance 1 a few minutes later, Y.M.C.A. B—THISTLE. Thistle scored six goals to Y.M.C.A,'6 one on Saturday afternoon. Tho match was not of an -interesting naturey and the more experienced team won. Goals were scored for Thistle by Sinclair (2), C. Roid, AValker (2), and Henderson, of Y.M.C.A., iheaded one through his own goal. For tho losers Webb put tho finishing touches on a shot by Sinclair, HOSPITAL—ROVERS. Hospital were successful in beating Rovers by three goals to ono oil their orai ground at Porirua. IN OTHER CENTRES, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 1.
