The Amalgamated Zinc Company, replying to Mr. Hughes's statements; re-.* gaiding German influence in tlio metal trade, says that'at the outbreak of •war tliqy had had a contract with SheAustralian Metal Company for all 'its' concentrates for a number of years. This had .been suspended, and ignored, the company declining absolutely to • communicate with the Australian Metals Company. • ■ Referring to tho sales to America the company points out that the general manager visited America /frith strict instructions not to negotiate with any American firm with a German taint. Largo orders were secured which Mr. Hughes approved. The company , addß that investigations are proceeding regarding the possibility of the company treating concentrates in Australia..
