Sir,—lt- seems all parties are agrcod that increased taxation as a result of the war expenditure' is absolutely necessary, hut'it seems difficult to agree upon what js tho fairest method to raise it. T. notice that a., suggestion has been made over in the Commonwealth that a considerable amount shall be: raised there by .increasing tho rate of postage. Somo years ago wo-liad a>2d. rate'on all colonial'and intercolonial letters, and a sixpenny rate on: English-.letters. An increase in the postage rates would be a tax easily collected, and after the novelty had passed off no one would feel the burden, and it would press equally np'on all classes.—l am, etc., TAXPAYER. Masterton,' July 23, 1915.
