EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Wellington Education Board was held yesterday afternoon. The Hon. J. G. ]V. Aitkcn presided, and there were also present: Messrs. C. M. Luke,. A. W. Hogg; J. Kcbble, \V. H. Freeman, M. H. I'ield, and A. Moss. It was decided to send to the various School Committees a circular setting out the .proposals of the New Zealand Council of Agriculture regarding the collection by school children of various grass seeds from the roadside, and recommending* that consideration should be given to tho suggestion. • The proposal from the Christchiirch Education Board, to hold a conference of Education Boards', led to some discussion. The chairman "suggested that the conference should be held off till the report of the Education Boundaries Commission had been brought Defore Parliament.
Mr. Hogg said that he felt. the. time was opportune to hold such a campaign, for they were on tho verge of an experiment in a way. '
In view of the fact that the Christchurch Board had decided to approach the Department the matter dropped. , The Wellington. Hospital Board wrote agreeing to inspect children's tcoth. It was decided to write thanking thfe board for-their generous offer, and, to suggest that the Newtown School should be >tho first'visited.
The official name of "Berhampore School" wa? decided -on for tho new school "which has been opened in Britomart Street."
' The statement of- accounts showed July , payments £13,042 13s. lid., and the debtor balance to July 23, £2770 6s. 4d. Tho payments included £6872 for salaries, £3579 for buildings, and £2650 general expenses.
