TROOPERS IN DUNEDIN
SEVERAL HOSPITAL CASES,
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Dunedin, July 27. Of the two Territorials on leavo from Trentham who reported themselves at the Hospital for medical examination, one was presumably suffering from measles, while tho other had a sore throat. It has been discovered that the measles patient is supposedly suffering from a mild attack of cerebro-spinal meningitis, while' the. other has tho germs of the disease ill his threat. Both cases 'liavo been isolated. About fifteen other men on leavo from Trentham have called' at the hospital for medical examination within tho last two days. Several have been isolated on suspicion, while others have been passed as freo from disease. Suspects are being watched by officers of tho Health Department, and a searching investigation of each Case is ordered. This involves several days' observation and treatment in tho laboratory.
Medical opinion is that the man attacked by the germs of the disease may not suffer from anything more than sore throat if he is in ordinary good health, and that at. the expiry of about 10 days the germs can be eradicated from the throat under efficient treatment, and the patient regains his normal health. If, however, his vitality weakens, the germs may gain the upper hand, and the man may then develop o'no of several forms of disease. The warning should be emphasised tli.it during all the time the patient is carrying the germs in his throat ho is a menaeo to those with whom ho comes in immediate contact. The men isolated arc to bo housed on the Hospital Board's property at Wakari. ■ Wood?' Great Peppermint Curs, . Tor .Coughs aad Colds, nevei; foil?, is, 64\!
