NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Gi.f.n-coe,] . The Pahiatua Racing Club's meeting takes place to-morrow, and the Woodlands Hunt MSeting takes place on the Pahiatua coni'se on Thursday. The death of Mr. Agar Wynne's Royal Artillery colt, Taste, is reported. Taste promised well, bmt was attacked with virulent influenza, and died of enlargement of the spleen. His spleen was larger than his liver, and his heart was double the normal size. Cornelian was tested over the big fences at Ellerslie on Saturday morning. Ho baulked badly at the sod. wall, managing to scramble over the double and stone ivall, but his display was not a promising one. So far no rider has been engaged for Ngatoa in tho Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton. Awahou, Master Lupin, and Multiply are engaged in both tli-3 Winter Cup and Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton next month. Multiply was some tiine ago supported to win this double. , ' Several Trentham horses were railed through to Pahiatua. yesterday. In accordance with the rules of the Auckland Racing Club tho following gentlemen retire from their respective offices, but being the only persons nominated -to fill the vacancies they will be declared duly re-elected as 'follows :-President, Hon. E. Mitclielson; vice-president, Mr. H. T. Gori-ie; committeemen, Messrs. R. ■IV. Duder, Murdoch M'Lean, N. Alfred Nathan, E. A. Price, and Wm. C. Somers; stewards, Messrs. J. 1). Jones, M. M, M'Callu.m, and G. A. Wynyard. .A. .Oliver will have the mounts on Royal Arms and Glenroy in their engagements at the Pahiatua meeting to-morrow. An event of interest in- this island during tho present weelj is the Waimate Plains trotting meeting, which takes place to-morrow. • ■ ■ Tho annual report of the Auckland Racing Club states that notwithstanding the unsettled state of affairs the committee decided on an increase in stakes over the previous. season of ,£5710, or a total of ■£•11,450,, and the result has justified their confidence. During the year contributions liavo been made by the club 4 to tho War Fund,' Belgian Reliof, Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers'' Funds, outside the , usual channels through which donations aro made, the total given away being ofiISSG 2s. .
