The mare was going well within herself at.the finish, the distance taking lmiu. 18 l-ssec. The most interesting item at Riccarton on Saturday morning was tho schooling task of once round over the big obstacles accomplished by the Grand National favourite Morning (Goodwin) and Daylight Bill (Scobie). Starting in front of the stand the latter outjumpod his companion over tlie brush fence, and going along the' back lie had a substantial lead (says tho "Sun"). This, Morning gradually reduced, but was still a length to the bad when the post was reached. Daylight Bill -was -tiring badly at tho finish, and did not pull up any too well, while his jumping over the last two obstacles was none too clean. Morning, who was currying slightly more weight than his companion, gave a. pleasing display, and had the grey's ineasuro at the finish. l'ene, who is engaged at Pahiatua on Wednesday, is doing useful work at Trentliam. - It is rumoured that A. A similar rumour gained currency last year, but on the day of tho race M'Swccney was on Royal Arms. Jl. Gray has been at Porirua lately schooling the jumpers as tho stable horseman, H. M'Sweeney, has not recovered from-his broken'collarbone. There is every indication that tho Pahiatua ' Racing Club's-meeting on Wednesday will be very successful. The acceptances have exceeded expectations, and tho committee has been very busy attending to requirements at the course (states our Pahiatua' correspondent). Tho Woodland Hunt's first totalisatw meeting on the. following day also gives promise of a successful gathering. A Press Association message from Melbourne states that J.
