Page _ (American Ambassador in' England) contains complaints by prisoners at Baistrup Camp in Germany, that tliey are fed principally on beetroot, kohl rabi, and meat' Iron* diseased: animals.' . Mr. J. W,; Gerard (American Ambassador iri Germany) reported that he had been unable, to visit Baistrup Camp. The Commandant had written that the rations previously under contract had since been altered and increased. _He visited the other camps. Complaints were not frequent, and the British were in excellent spirits, except where other nationalities were largely in excess! "Ho heard a band;at Freidrichsfeld where the violins and' 'celloswere home-made. He found several soldiers before an altar in a Catholic chapel. . Protestants', complained that they had no services. Kosher meat was provided for the Jews. There were several complaints of vermin and shortage of soap. The Germans alleged that several of tha British cut their hoots and hide their good uniforms to. avoid being included in the working parties. . ,
