£7500 FOR A FLAG
ANOTHER GREAT "WAIRARAPA EFFORT. 'An' enthusiastic patriotic gathering was held at Tinui on Thursday night, when a flag presented by Mr. H. Donglas was offered at' auction in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr. A. J. Cooper was tho auctioneer, and bidding was very spirited. Tho total proceeds of the sale reached tho splendid. sum of £7500, tho final purchaser of the flag being Mr. C. F. Y a " anco j £1000_. The sale of flags and other articles in tho Wairarapa- lias resulted in a sum of about £'65.000 already being raised for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, apart from about £40,000, provided for tho Belgian and other funds. Tho Tesponse of the Wairarapa- to tho various appeals has been truly magnificent. Tho springs of generosity liavo not yefc run dry, however, and a monster carnival is now being organised by. tho Friendly Societies of Mastorton.
