The battle of Gorizia, involving an Italian turning movement, is proceeding, and tlicy are sweeping all before them. ■ General Cadorna's troops from' Gradisca aro attacking; Podgora, iu .tho Sabolino Mountains, which, although on tlio right hank of. the Is<hizo, 'dominate Gorizia. The Italians are holding the Plava, and are forcing a way to Moutcsaiito at tho top of Podora, which is crowned with five forts with 12-inch giins, while the slope of the Podora is cut up by trenches with sliding armoured shutters'and vast grottds. The Austrians keep strong reserves, and when tho Italians capture a section behind which the Austrians retire, . blocking up the remainder of the wall with quickly-drying cement. General Cadoma is simultaneously attempting tlio reduction ■ of.Tolmino, which is almost surrounded. HAND-TQ-HAND FIGHTING. AUSTRIAN! OFFICIAL' REPORT. (Rec. July 23, 8:50 p.m.) Vienna, July 23. Official.—The defenders of the Doberdo Plateau brilliaiitly repulsed all attacks. . The Italians kept up the advanco on the Palazzo sector, and attacked at night. ' All tho assaults were repulsed with great bloodshed. Wo counter-attacked at Sdrasiissina, recaptured all positions. Tho Italians continually brought up fresh forces. -At tho bridgehead at Podgora ten. infantry regiments . in 'succession made barren attacks. The battle continually developed into liand-to-liand lighting. Three assaults failed. The enemy pierced some parts of our trenclios, but was ; repulsed. Tho battle is still uudecidcd.
