PROPOSALS DEFEATED.

A poll was taken to-day on tie pr<* pcsal by the City Council to borrow £26,000 for building new tram-cars, remodelling existing cars, and making aiterations to approaches to car-sued. Out of about 10,000 voters only 638 registered their votes and the proposal waft rejected by 314 votes to 312. In Persia, it is customary to keep a pig in every stable. It is believed thai the presence of the pig is in some way, beneficial to the health of the horses. A dairy farm of 16S acres is advertised for sale by Messrs. Lewis and Co., Wa»nganui. A freehold dairy, poultry, and greenstuffs farm near New Plymouth is at present for sale by Mr. 1\ P. Corkill, land agent, New Plymouth. The assigned stock of Nuk's, Ltd,, Auckland, valued at will be auc* tioned at Auckland on August 4. Full particulars can bo had on application to tho auctioneers, Messrs. Richard Arthur and Co., Auckland. Messrs.' G. Phillips and Co., land agents, Matiere, have two farms for sale. Particulars are advertised. M'Glashan's, Ltd., Napier, have a seaport Hawke's Bay hotel for sale. This hotel is claimed to be one of the best paying concerns in tho province. Messrs.
