RED CROSS BUREAU
■AUSTRALIAN OFFICE IN EGYPT.
The council of the Australian Red ' Cross Society decided at a meeting held at the Federal Government House, Melbourne, on July 13, to send two commissioners from Australia to represent the society in Egypt. Lady Helen lluuro Ferguson, who presided, said that it would give tie public confidence if the society had its own, commissioners in Egypt to; co-operate with the committee already appointed ■ there.. Such commissioners - could do a great deal in the way of organising inquiries as to what was needed in our hospitals, as well as organising voluntary work in the various'hospitals and rest- stations for the accommodation of wounded soldiers. Two gentlemen well known in Australia—Mr. Adrian Knox, K.C., and Mr. Norman Brookes—-had agreed to take up the position of commissioners, and it was proposed that they, should leave by the Orsova. Passages by that ' steamer had been provided free by the Minister of Defence (Senator Pearce), who had also promised to give every other assistance possible. The comniis- ■ 'eioners were to provide for their own maintenance, the society supplying out-of-pocket expenses in Egypt when Gov"ernment transport was not : available.
