ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

Th'o members of the Accountants' Students' Society held! an eminently successful debate in the Accountants' Chambers, last Friday night'. A very appropriate subject was chosen for debate, "That it is in the best interests of'the Dominion that a high protective tariff be enforced against foreign imports." The affirmative was taken by Messrs. T. Auton, A.1.A.N.Z., F.L., F.ll. Bass, RegAcct., and A. J. M'Lenuan, while tho speakers on the negative side : were Messrs. W. Appleton, A'.I.A.N.Z., C. M. Bowdon, A.1.A.N.55., and G. E. Pattrick, F.I.A.N.Z. The debate was keenly contested, and tho arguments advanced oil both sides were of an exceptionally high order. Til© judge, Mr. I) S._ Smith,LL.M., in declaring the negative side the winners, gave some excellent criticism to the individual speakers. i Tho team selected to represent the society in tho joint debate with the Chrlstchurch Accountant Students' Sociey, in on August 2 1, is: Messrs. Pattrick, Appleton, and Auton, Tho chairman, Mr. Ernest W. Hunt, F.1.A.V., intimated that the next meeting of the society would, be held on ■August 4, when Mr. A. S. Biss would lecture on "Fraud in Accounts."-
