COPPER COINS 'AND CARTRIDGE CASES. Mr. J. Langridge, curator of the Wellington Zoo, has reported to the City Council that a male ostrich died on July 15 after a two weeks' illness. He called in Mr. Clayton, veterinary surgeon, who held a post-mortem examination of the big bird, and as a result found the stomach of, the ostrich to be in a shocking_ condition through copper poisoning, which had caused peritonitis. In the stomach were found no fewer than fourteen pennies and half-pennies, a cartridge case (copper), and part of the stem of a pipe. The Reserves Committee, which has worked so enthusiastically for the Zoo, is framing a recommendation to the council to offer a reward of £5 to anyone who will give information that will load to the conviction of people guilty of throwing coins, etc., to the birds as mentioned above. .*
