The oil painting, "Audrocles and the Lion," presented to Auckland by thei artist, Briton Riviere, has been shipped to Now Zealand, and is expected to arrive shortly. This picture was given to the city by the artist as "an expression, long felt, of my respect and admiration of 'the kindly patriotism for the Mother Country of which New Zealand has given such distinguished proofs." An unreserved clearing sale of sheep, horses, implements, and harness will bo held at Mr. J. P. Newton's farm. Rau-mai-(near Ashhurst) on July 28. Messrs. Abraham and Williams. Ltd., will conduct the sale on behalf of the owner. The largest single, sun spot over recorded had a diameter of 143,000 miles.
