TWO PRISONERS WITH RECORDS

Several additional charges were. preferred against Tfoomas Higgins and Thomas. Herbert Woodcock, who appeared ont remand! at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, charged, with stealing Ji3, the property of the Automatic Bakeries Company. Higgins was further charged with enticing Woodcock to pawn a military overcoat, and Woodcock, who had several' aliases to his name, with delivering the same to Higgins. "Woodcock also had four charges of false pretences preferred against h,iiu. (1) on June 5,' at New' Plymouth, obtaining goods to the value of ,£2 2s. and .£8 ss. in cash from Nicholas Griener, watchmaker, by means of a valueless cheque; (2) on June 7, at Eltham, obtaining .E5 17s. from Joan. Valentine Shield, livery stable keeper, by the same means; (3) on June 18, at Wellington, obtaining two bottles of whisky valued'at lis., and ■Jj-jJ' B : 9d. in cash, from Thomas Stephen ll{juire, by the same means; (J) on June If, at Feilding, obtaining goods and cash to the value of <£6 Bs. by tho same means. On the charges concerning the military overcoat each acoused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, while on the charge of stealing the .£3 Higgins was sent to gaol for two months, and Woodcock_ for a month. Both accused had previous "records," Higgins a fairly heavy one. The charges of false pretences were remanded to July 20, Woodcock intimating that he .would plead, guilty, to all of them, ; ■ OTHEKTCASES.
