SPORTS ON THE AMOKURA
RESULTS OF BOXING CONTESTS. The prizes in connection with the annual boxing and draughts competitions held pn board the training ship Amokuva were presented by Commander •Hooper on board the ship on Monday afternoon. The final _in the boxing competition took place in the ship's schoolroom on Friday lasti the officials being as follow President and chairman, Commander Hooper; time-keeper, Mr. E. S. Pyko, first engineer; referee, Mr.- E. Martin,,instructor j judge, Mr. J. Power, instructor. The Wellington South Cadet Drum and Fife Band, under Sergeant-Major Brown, and several visitors, including Messrs. Millier, • Herd, Healy, and Cowles, were present, and witnessed'tho contests, Tho events, . which were keenly contested, were watched with much interest. The musical selections rendered by tho band at intervals were much appreciated. ' At the conclusion light refreshments were, handed to tho visitors by -the staff and boys of tho ship; and SergeantMajor Brown, in thanking the committee for the invitation to be present, expressed a hope that it ' would be only the forerunner of evenings of a similar nature. A few appropriate remarks from Commander Hooper concluded an interesting and enjoyable evening. The following aro tho results 'of the boxing competition:— Fly Weight.—Williams v. Kerr, won by Williams. Bantam Weight.—Woolfo v. Morris, won by Woolfe. _ Light Woight.—Hayes v. : M'Grath, won by Hayes. Middle Weight.—Hooker v. Edwards, won bv Edwards. Welter Weight—Jasperson v. Chapman. a draw. • . • Draughts Competition.—Johnson, 1 ; Smith, 2; AVilcox, 3.
