FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Wellington ' Anglican Diocesan;' Synod resumed its'sittings yesterday,, -' the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Ti H< Sprott)- presiding. The report of the Finance Committee' was presented, showing that the estimated expenditure lor,the year ending March. 31. 1916, was £16,438 6s. 2d. The committee reported, with pleasure that in several instances increased; asi . . . sessments were undertaken previous to the meeting, of Synod by .parochial..districts. in order to increase, the stipends , of their clergy. The following, resolu-. ; tions were appended to tho.report:—; 1. That an, extra special offertory ill aid of, tlio general Churcli fund be collected throughout the diocese in every' parish and parochial district' on the first.; . Sunday-ill February, or'where-services are held, oil alternate Sundays, on the first or second; 2. That notice be given to Island Bay 4 Brooklyn, • Pahiatua, .Mangatainoka, \ Raetihi. Khandallah, and Pohangioa that their assessments' will probably be increased next year: and to Pongaroa,'' . Otaki, and Marigawefca that their grants , in aid .will probably bo . reduced- and;' their , assessments increased next, year. 3. That .the vestry of ; Pahautanui bd Informed that- the Synod much regrets that it should be in arrears'with its assessment, to the extent of £25 for thei : ■past year, and urges upon, the vestry'-'to make a-determined effort to secure more punctual payment at; the 'end of each quarter. ' - i. That the sum of .£SO voted id-, years past for candidates for Holy Or-' t ders. at tlio discretion of the -Bishop, but not cl&imed, be discharged from . the liabilities of-the General Church Fund, and that the said sum be grant- ; cd. to tho Governors of,-Hadfield Col-, lege and Hostel towards paying. off the' overdraft at the bank, and secured by t them to meet costs - of improvements, and repairs of tho building. ■ i , Military Affairs. It was resolved, .after,a discussion ifl. ■ committee, ■ "That full power, be given . by this Synod to the 'Military Affairs • uimmittee' to carry on the .work of the chuneh .it Trentham and other., camps as may be established." Another resolution was. "That Messrs. ■ D., H. S. Riddiford, ■ G.; Shirtcliffe, J. W. Henderson, and D t M.v Yeats be. appointed a committee lo confer- with : the Military Affairs Committee."
