NEW BRITISH SCALE IN FORCE

25s A WEEK FOR PRIVATES

Army Orders wore,published ill London on May 25 making "further provision for the pensions of disabled soldiers," and "further provision for - tho pensions of widows and children of' British warrant officers, non-commis-sioned officers, and men whoso deaths result from the present war." The former pensions are thus laid down;—

1 -1. A"European.soldier discharged l in .consequence of the present war as'unfit for further service on account of wounds or injuries, or sunstroke, received in action or iu the. performance of military duty, or on account of blindness'caused by military servi'cepor of disease due directly and wholly to war service, may, if totally incapable of earning a livelihood, he granted pension at the following weekly rates:— Warrant officer (Class I) iOs, Warrant officer (Class 11} or iN'on-' commissioned officer (Class 1)... 335. Non-commissioned, officer (ClassII) 31 S . Non-commissioned officer (Class ; III) 295: Non-commissioned-officer (Class 7 IV) 275. : Privates, etc. (Class V) 255. 2. If a soldier so discharged is partially capable of earning a livelihood, ho may bo granted a pension such as will, with tho'wages he may be deemed capable of earning, amount to the above rates, according to his rank. 3; A soldier pensioned under Article 1 of the Warrant'may be granted during the period of total incapacity a further allowance of 2s. 6d. a week for each of his children , born before the date of his discharge and .under sixteen' years of age. If he is pensioned under Article' 2an allowance not exceeding 2s. tid. a week for each such child may be added to, the pension! These allowances nig'y be-continued (subject to the continuance of the pension) beyond the age of sixteen oil the recommendation ot the local education authority in the cases of appronticos.receiving not more, than nominal wages, or of children being educated at secondary schools, technical schools, or universities.

It ! more favourable •to the soldier than the pension and allowances for which he ina.y be eligible under the warrant, he may begranted instead a pension under the, terms of the warrant of December I, 1914, for the'pay, appointment, promotion, ■ and "lion-effectivo pay, of the Army;: and the provisions of that warrant, relative to disability pensions, shalli' except as modified by this warrant, remain in force.

■ 5. The rates of . pension provided ,n the warrant,together'with the allowances fo'r children, may be granted as from March 1, 1915, or date, of discharge if later, in all case's of soldiers disabled ■ throughout the present war from' its- commencement.' '

Pensions for Widows and Children. The warrant relating to the pensions for widows and children contains the following- provisions:—. 1. The widow's :aiid children of warrant officers,' non-commissionec officers, and men may. be granted pensions, at the following rates, in lieu of the special rates laid down in Article 788 of the Warrant of December 1, 1914, for tlio pay, appointment, promotion',' and non-effective pay of the Army, and of the rates laid down in Article 1248: • ' Age 35, Age 45 ■>.
