THE TRENTHAM CLIMATE.
'(To tho Editor.) Sir,—l was very much interested in the Teport, appearing. in last Monday's Dominion, of Dr. Newman's-remarks in tho House of Parliament, on tho, healthiness of-tlie Upper Hutt and Trentham Camp in particular. . Now, I have had seventy-fivlß years close connection with the Upper Hutt; my father and mother with their family were the first white settlers in tho Upper Hutt. lam very pleased to be in a postion to endorso every , word that Dr. Newman said in praise of the climate of Upper Hutt. Tho district is entirely free from floods. ' The Upper Hutt railway station is 40 feet abovo river level and 211 feet above sea level, . The sickness-in the Trentham Camp, about. which there is so much stupid talk, has nothing whatever to do " with the climate of the district. The death rate of the Upper Hutt district the lowest in the Do-, minion : the birth-rate is the highest: in the Dominion.'. In the early days the settlers' reared very .large, families, from 12'to'15' children, arid those children aro all living at the. present time. —-I anij etc., • •• ■ : ■ ■ • G. BROWN.
