TRENTHAM CAMP
We must', congratulate the Defence Minister on tho decision to transfer the camp at Trentham to some other site in the same neighbourhood. Exactly where the move will be made to seems somewhat uncertain at the moment, but for reasons which we set out at some length yesterday a ohange was most desirable. In most respects Trentham is admirably situated for a training camp, and excellent work has been dono there; but the living quarters of the men have been too long in one place. It shoWd be a comparatively simple matter to shift tho camp to one of the vacant spots near by, so, that existing traininggrounds, which have been bo admirably prepared, lnay still' be utilised without any serious trouble. The fact that Mr. Allen has now been relieved of some of his port-folios, and thus will be able to devote his whole enemies to the duties of Defence Minister, marks another desirable step. Mr. Allen has carried a very heavy burden since tho war began, and on the military side can point to a record of achievement to which' both he and the country may well be proud. Such weakness as has been disclosed has been on the medical side of the Defence Department, and was mainly due to the lack of trained a,nd experienced officers in ' tljis section.- It is a picco, of good fortune that the Minister' has now ,been able to securc the services of an experienced and capable officer of the K.A.M.C., such as Colonel Henderson is reported to bo.
