SYDNEY STREET SCHOOLROOM SECURED. Another,'.meeting of representative Wellington women who aro interesting themselves in establishing a social and writing room for the troopers from Trentham who from day to day visit the City was held in tho Y.M.C.A. rooms yesterday morning to report upon ways and means in connection . with tie scheme. That it has been thought a very necessary provision to .make for tlie comfort, of tho soldiers was shown by the keen interest and practical sup--1 port which has been afforded' the movement since its inception a few days ago, and . liberal offers to assist with the movement were received at the meeting.' The Sydney Street Schoolroom has been secured as a club-room, and should aiir swer the purpose admirably, as it is large, well fitted up, and (a valuable qualification) is near the railway station. It is proposed to keep the room open on Friday, Saturday, and-Sunday of each week, and while there will bo light refreshments provided there will be no set programme of entertainment , arranged for those nights.' In London, so eager are people to. show their 'appreciation of what the overseas soldiers are doing for the Empire, and so warm is their interest in their welfare, that they have opened a Club, for Overseas Soldiers in Regent Street.' Tho'Victoria, League helped to establish it, and in this club an information' bureau has been opened, and cards, games, and reading matter and refreshments are provided. The club has been fomid. io he very '.successful, > and has met with the warn approval of the Commandant of the Canadian Forces and the High Commissioners for Australia, and New .Zealand. Tho people have felt that they could but give of their, best, and. that freely) for the men who -are ' sacrificing , so , much for their, It would not look well for "Wellington to bo behind tho English, people in look-' ing after the soldiers who are for tho time being settled'iri its midst, and who are really in its charge'. Assistance in' tho matter of financial contributions or gifts in kind/ and offers to provide or assist in providing refreshments on tho niehts that the: club is to be kept open, will be very welcome.
