At the conference of the General Fedoration of Trado Unionists at Derby, Mr. Crattley, representative of the furnishing trades, proposed a motion expressing sympathy with German trade unionists, saying that , they were ,not sympathetic with the atrocities done by the military caste. ' Mr. Ben .'fillet said that German trado unionists openly boasted that t'hev would crush France and then England. The present war was a "scrap" which must be fought out in that spirit. Whoever heard of two prize-fighters stoppiug to kiss each other. Let. them have done with this sentimental bosh. The amendment was negatived amid loud cries of "Next business." THE NATIONAL REGISTER. COTERIES OF OPPOSITION, . ■ ,• , London, July 4. Small Liberal groups have formed to oppose the National Registration Bill, and intend to move an amendment not to. proceed until thero is proof that the powers already possessed by tho Government are insufficient. Though a division is threatened, ihere is no doubt that the House of Commons will overwhelmingly favour the Bill. ; Irish Unionists are astonished at the special provisions, which virtually exclude the Irish from the operation of tho National Registration Bill. The "Irish Times" describes the Bill as a studied insult to patriotic Ireland. Unionists and many Nationalists bolievo that total exclusion would be better than the present humiliating compromise. •' ■ The Nationalist Press comment"!? cautious and restrained, but it is evidently well pleased.—"Times" and Sydney "Sun" services. "TRADE UNION INVESTMENT IN THE AVAR LOAN.. :j .' London, July 4. The Boilermakers' Society has invested £50,000 in tho war loan, and has also' converted £30,000 of old war stock.
