THE,'RUSSIANS, The war news to-day records the sinking of the German battleship ■ Deutschland by a Russian submarine in the Baltic Sea. There is also ' a conncoted narrative of tho sea fight (reported yesterday) which l took placc between a, Russian and German cruiser squadron in the Baltic during a, dense fog. In morale, 1 gunnery, and manoeuvring, the Rus-\ > sians appear to have had all the best of it. On land, the Russian retreat continues, with stubborn rearguard fighting. The ' Germane claim successes both East and'Wcst, but their recital of successes in the Argcnne makes rather amusing comparison with the French narrative of the Crown Prince's failure to accomplish his vaunted boast ! There is also a German reference to the bomb-dropping. exploits at Harwich (English East Coast), and also over . a flotilla cf British torpedo boats, but the British messages make no /' mention of'these. There has been'hot fighting north of Arras, and, also in the Lorraine region. From the Austro-Italian theatre comes a report that Tolmino (Tolmein in Austria) has been captured by the' .
