COMFORTS FOR SICK AND WOUNDED ABROAD
• His Excellency .the Governor has forwarded the following for publication the Hospital Ship and Red Cross comforts for sick and wounded abroad:—"As a considerable- number uf letters have been received from all : over New Zealand, and in particular jfrom officials" of the St. John Ambulance ' (Association. and Brigade,. asking what comforts, are required at the #> various .base and stationary, hospitals in-which , .our-sick and wounded are located abroad, telegrams were dispatched with the object of obtaining tho necessity ! information, and the following is a list of articles compiled from the replies re- . peived, ■ . V ■' •' > Medium weight shirts (wool-, \ - / len material). ■. > ' Vests. 1 '■ Drawers. Socks, - Cholera'belts. ... ■ Pyjamas. Towels. > ■ ?'lt is, however, ■suggested.that in ac- ; i-ordanoe with tne previous intimation in the Press no further donations in money should be made to the Hospital " Ship Fund, as, owing to the very genV erous response already accorded to .the' appeal, there, are- sufficient .surplus funds available, not only for re-equip-ping the ship, .but also for assisting • xmr°sick and wounded. ' ' "In order, nevertheless,-to facilitate the ■ dispatch of future consignments of ■ comforts, the ; Under-Secretary/ Department of Internal Affairs, has undertaken, to make all shipping arrange-' ments. and he has also been authorised by me to defray any charges .whon aie'cessary in connection therewith from the Hospital Ship Fund. /, ■ ■ ' ."All cases should be addressed as follows:—; - . s . ■ . Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, after the consignor has ascertained from him the date on which he wishes the goods to arrive 111 Wellington. "In order to avoid mistakes it is particularly "requested that the above instructions be followed minutely, as the Under-Secretary for -Internal Affairs is - also undertaking to arrange for the shipment of all goods donated for the benefit of tho Belgians."
