PACIFIC CABLE BOARD'S SCHOONER
ANXIETY FOB, HER SAFETY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, July 1. Some anxiety, but no very serious alarm, is felt for the safety of those aboard the Pacific Cable Board's schoner Strathcona, which left Auckland oil June i for Suva, and has not since beon reported. From reports by various steamers she encountered weather after leaving Auckland, and it is considered likely that she has been blown out of her course, and 16 now working her way back to Suva. The Strathcona, which was only completed last month, is a vessel of 160 tons, of exceptionally stout build, and capable of riding out any ordinary gale. She is fitted with an 80 h.p. crude oil engine, but has storage for only about five days' oil. One theory is that she may have found it necessary to shelter in the Kermadec group, but at present it is considered that the delay may be accounted for by an enforced deviation from her proper course. On inquiry to-day is was ascertained from the local office of the Pacific Cable Board that if no further news comes to hand by the end of the week a steamer will probably bo dispatched from Suva to search for the unssing schooner.
