TECHNICAL EDUCATION
MEETING OF BOARD. Tho monthly meeting of tho "Wellington Technical Education Board was held last, night. Mr. D. Robertson presided, and there were also present the Hon. J. 6. W. Aitken and Messrs. M. F. Lnckio, G. Frost, and W. 11. Field. Accounts amounting to £178 10s. 10d., and salaries £796 7s.' Ctl. wero passed for payment. A monthly financial statement showing receipts and expenditure for 1914 and 1915 was presented. It showed receipts for 1915 as £948, as against £1155 for 1914. The expenditure was £796, as against £860 for 1914. Tho debit balance was £833, as against £1454 for 1914. Accounts outstanding were: Capitation £2159, and claim for rent £125. A letter was received from the Southland Technical College drawing attention to tho disadvantages under whicli technical Btudents entered the Public Service, particularly the Railway Department, where no' credit was given for the training they had received. Assistance was asked to get relief in. the matter. It was decided to join with the Southland Board in suggesting some reform to the Government. Mr. La Trobe said that Mr. E. H. Hiley (General Manager of Railways) had been approached, but while he was sympathetic he said the regulations permitted no change. The Director reported that twentythree applicants had put in for the position oflEnglish master. Two, however. asked for a salary in excess of that advertised. Mr. Fitzgerald Eagar, first assistant, Karori, was appointed.
