MAHENO'S MOTOR-BOAT
A very interesting ceremony took place this week, when the motor boat presented to the Hospital Ship by the Auckland Motor Power Association ws taken from the truck and placed m the water in the presence of P spectators. The boat' itself is a ve y pretty model, and an excellent exposition of the boat-builders' art. She is 29ft. long, Bft. 3in. beam, and draws 22 inches, fitted out with 16 horse-power 2-cvlinder double ignition engines, and generates her own electricity. The boat is also fitted for towing purposes, and could, in case of need, carry from 8 to 10 wounded. She is painted white throughout, with a green band 3m. wide and red cross, in accordance with the Geneva Convention. All the labour was supplied free of charge by the boatbuilding members of the New Zealand Power Boat Association. Other members of this association took upon tnemiwlves to supply free of charge the necessary fittings, in order to completely equip and fit out the Hospital launch. Before leaving Auckland the Hospital launch was christened by Mrs. u n. Palmer, "Awbina,". meaning to afford assistance." On. being placed m tie waters of Wellington Harbour, the launch was driven under her own power bv Messrs. Palmer and Burt from tho Bailway Wharf to the Boat Harbour, and was steered by Miss The launch is very strongly constructed, and can register 10 knots comfortably. The Auckland people, and more 7 the members of the Power Boat Association and Motor Service Corps, are to be congratulated on the excellent, serviceable, and -useful motor boat they have presented
