THE WAR IN GALLIPOLI

SNIPING AND ARTILLERY DUES COLONIAL MARKSMANSHIP SUPERIOR Sydney, June 24. Captain Bean, in a message dated from Gab a Tepe on June 15, says that, save for a few bomb exploits at Quinn's Post, the fighting is confined to sniping, and artillery duels. Our snipers lately have shown, a marked superiority, which is daily increasing. Referring to the artillery, Captam Bean says that in the early days during the night attacks Turks were killed within ten yards of onr gnns. A gunner sat all night with his gun laid and tne firing lever in his hand. Other guns were converted into glorified shot guns, with tho shell fuses set at aero, so that they burst on leaving the muzzle. Our artillery had plenty of targets in mule trains at a distance. It has been lately noticed that enemy troops are drilling behind Achi Baba. Apparently the;y are new recruits. Tho fighting is undoubtedly as difficult as in inlanders, but there is gradual progress. Captain Bean says that the European sources of information other than Reuter and Mr. Ashmead Bartlett are untrustworthy. . The men, including the New Zealanders, are 1 in splendid spirits. Just now the flies are far more annoying than the Turks. Tho sea beach resembles Manly on. a holiday.
