LEMBERG EVACUATED BY THE RUSSIANS
AFTER VIOLENT FIGHTING RETREAT IN PERFECT ORDER GOOD SCORE BY THE FRENCH ' HONOURS IN GALLIPOLI FIGHTING COLONIAL OFFICERS DECORATED MUNITIONS' BILL IN THE COMMONS The Russians hare evacuated Lemberg, in good order, after, as tho Austriaas themselves, admit, fighting; magnificently. No booty, and very few prisoners fell into tho hands of the Austrians, and the Russians, according to a late message, have now assumed au offensive movement on the Austro-German flanks. Lemberg is an incident in a record ef big events, for in another sector of the Dniester line the Russians have stormed a number of fortified villages, and the pursuit of the defenders has been carried ac ross to the right bank of the river. In the Western theatre the French have made a good score in tho Vosges sector of the largo battle-front, and at other points from there to Arras the enemy has had ali tSe worst of the encounters. There is very little news from Italy, and what conies from Gallipoli conveys'nothing ef essential developments subsequent to tho combined attack on tho town of Gallipoli. Several colonial officers* - amongst them Colonel Chaytor, of Wellington, New Zealand, have been mentioned for honours in reward for their gallantry in action. Mr. Lloyd George has introduced his Munitions Bill with an effective speech, and in the debate which followed re polled an attack on Lord Kitchouer by Sir A. B. Markham, a, Liberal member.
